Captain Jason Kintner -- Trophy Blue Catfish Guide
Trophy Blue Catfishing on the Potomac River and James River, 812-201-3399

THE POTOMAC RIVER

For Potomac River trips, I will meet you at the Pohick Bay Regional Park in Lorton, VA. My boat will be on the river, fully ready to fish, at 7 am for day trips (November - May) and at 7 pm for night trips (June - October). Prior to your arrival, I will set a gill net to catch fresh bait. You're welcome to arrive early to see how I catch fresh bait; just let me know that you wish to do so when you book your trip. The Park offers a limited number of rental cabins. If you're interested in lodging there, please call the Park at 703-339-6104 for more details.

THE JAMES RIVER

For James River trips, the time of year will influence when and where we meet. I will offer James River trips during April and May, and again during October and November. These have proven to be the best months for both numbers and size of trophy blue catfish. I will tell you our specific meeting location when you book your trip. Regardless, most boat ramps are a short drive from Interstate 95's exit # 61 (Chester, VA). In addition to catfish, April and May often offer several bonus fishing opportunities, as American Shad, Hickory Shad, and Striped Bass run up the river to spawn. During morning and evening hours, American and Hickory Shad can be caught on shad darts and Foley Spoons. These shad reach up to 5 pounds and offer a great fight on light tackle. Also, during October and November, you will get to see the fall migration of Atlantic Sturgeon. These living dinosaurs make a fall spawning run up the James, and can be seen breaching the water in spectacular aerial displays. Some of these fish are more than 7 feet long!
